My First Hand Embroidery Project

Hi my lovely readers ^_^

This week i would to share my first ever hand embroidery experience. At first i thought it would be very difficult, but as i try it is not that difficult as long as you keep the stitches the same length and no hurry, just take it slow. It's quite fun ^_^

I have prepare the image that i want to use for this project. It is from my hand drawing, a simple dolphin.

I am adding 4 swirls for decoration.

As for the fabric, i am using linen in natural colour. You may use cotton or aida cloth as well.

To transfer the image onto fabric, i am using iron on transfer pencil from clover. I did some researches on internet before using it. Many people suggesting traced and draw the outline with tissue paper or other this paper. I did tried using ordinary paper, it just not do the job very well. The heat setting on the iron also must match with the type of fabric you will be using. Preferable don't use the steam. Since mine is linen, so i am setting the iron temperature to cotton/linen.

1 important tips to remember: the iron on transfer pencil once it is transfer onto fabric, it will become permanent. Therefore, make sure trace and transfer the images in he right position. If you want to transfer words, do not forget to reverse them first.

Since i was using ordinary paper to transfer the image the line quite blurry and hardly visible, therefore i am tracing the lines again using erasable fabric marker.

Oh, i prefer do the embroidery with embroidery hoop. Just remember to pull the fabric really tight. The fabric must be taut, it would make your job easier. I did try not to use the hoop though, it just won't work with my linen.

For this simple project, i am using:
-) Back stitch for the outline body of the dolphin.
-) Chain stitch for the 4 swirls.
-) Satin stitch for fill in the eye and cheek.

I am quite nervous to begin the first stitch ^_^ just remember to keep all the stitches the same length. The embroidery floss is rose colour.

Yeah, finally finish the body of the dolphin. Now, time to add in the details like its eye and pinky cheek.

Eye and pinky cheek done!!! Use satin stitch for filling cheek and eye.

Let's add some decorations using chain stitch. 1 done, 3 more to go.

Done done done. Carefully open the embroidery hoop and take put the fabric. It will full of wrinkles. it will need a very good press on hot iron. I usually put my old t-shirt on top of the fabric to prevent any burning. Give it 2-3 times press on hot iron, the fabric will free from all wrinkles.

Ta-da, i made it into zippered pouch.

Gold teeth colour zipper from YKK brand.

Inside is red polkadot cotton for lining. I love polkadot fabrics.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as i am enjoying writing and sharing my experience on hand embroidery.

There are lots of tutorials on how do simple hand embroidery stitches on the internet and youtube has tons on videos.

I will see you on my next project ^_^

Simple & Easy Tutorial Fabric Passport Cover

Hi my lovely readers ^_^ i am back on tutorial.

For this week project i would like to show you how to make an easy and simple passport cover made from fabric. It is really easy, simple and fast. Totally beginner, all you need to do is straight stitching with your sewing machine.

Okay, without further ado, let's get started!

This is how my passport look like. Mine comes with the green plastic cover. I have been re-using the cover each time i change passport. It looks pretty beaten up.

This is the inside.
And Ta-da, my fresh and new fabric passport cover.

Take a peek on the inside. Blue flower pattern as the lining.

Fit nicely for my passport size. The finish size:
When unfolded: 20cm x 14cm
When folded: 10cm x 14cm

First, you will need to measure your passport without any cover and unfolded. Mine is: 18cm x 12.5cm. The pattern is fit to slide in standard size of passport book. It measure: 15cm x 32cm plus 1cm each for the seams allowances on 4 sides.

Cut 1 outer fabric + fusible interfacing following the pattern and 1 lining fabric + fusible interfacing same sizes as the pattern. I already interfaced both of my fabrics.
Note: you may skip interface the lining, but i always interface the lining to add strength. If you decided to interface your lining, you can consider thinner interfacing than you use for the outer fabric, otherwise it would be too stiff. And you can also add padding in between them.

Place outer and lining fabrics right sides together and pin them, so the fabrics won't move when you sew and leave an 10cm opening. I leave the opening on the right side.

Bring to your sewing machine and starting to stitch 1cm seam allowance from the 1 point of the opening and ending at the other point. After that trim those 4 corners to reduce bulks or any excess fabrics. Careful do not cut the seams.

Pull all the fabrics inside out from the 10cm opening. Using blunt object like chopstick to push the 4 corners. Carefully not to push to hard. Then press it on warm iron, not to hot though or you may burn the fabrics (i did that sometime @_@).

Remember the 10cm opening that we leave? Now you just need to close it up. You can sew by hand or machine stitch. I like to use machine. Do the same on the other side.

Nicely flat and both side also nicely sewn.

Turn the fabric and fold the sides 6cm. You may fold the sides more than 6cm if you prefer more depth. The choice is yours ^_^

Do the same on the other side.

You can always try to insert your passport book first to check the measurement. It looks okay for my taste ^_^

Now, all you need to do is top stitching. Or you can use any decorative stitching available on your sewing machine. I keep mine as simple straight stitch.

This is how my stitching look like. I decided to top stitching not only the top and lower part but also the sides.

Inside look.

Hehe, i use my expired passport as sample ^_^

You can even put 2 passports and maybe sewed velcro tape on the 2 sides for closure.

It measures: 15cm x 10cm.

I'm thinking on making more using cute fabrics and sell them on Etsy or Toyoutpost.

Okay, that's all. Hope you like it and enjoy the tutorial.

I see you on my next projects.

Denim Bifold Purse

Hi my lovely readers, today i want to show you what i have just made: Denim Bifold Purse. The projects took me 2 days to make. Day 1 is only to create the pattern. I search the internet but thinking it would be better if i came up something on my own. A bit tedious, but i am quite happy with my pattern. And day 2 is to sew all together.

This is not a tutorial, not yet, hehe, cause i am still try to working on the pattern, to make it little bit better. Hope soon i can sell the purse on my Etsy ^_^

Okay the idea behind making new purse is when my ultimate kipling purse is about to retire soon. I have been using the purse for about 3-4 years. See the picture below.

The colour used to be dark purple and close with 2 zipper.

Lots of compartments/slots for cards. 1 Zipper for coin at the middle. 2 open slots behind the slots for cards. It can holds more than 10 cards.

Another 2 slots for money.

I am thinking on making a very simple bifold purse and close using magnet. There are many patterns and tutorials available on the internet, but the slots only can hold 6 cards and i have total of 10 cards i keep inside my purse. That is why i am creating my own pattern.

I made total 10 card slots. 2 Open slots for money or coupons. I also managed to sew zipper coin slots.

I use denim fabric for outer layer, with adding lace strip and a bit on the magnetic tab for decoration, otherwise it will look a bit too plain. When in fold, the purse measure: 20x11cm.

When open, the purse measure: 22x20cm. Hehe, as you can see i already put everything i had on my previous purse to here.

Hehe, i am quite happy with the final result. Yay, i finally have new purse. Even better i made it myself ;)

I will see you on my next projects.

Latest Items Available For Toyoutpost Locker

Oups, been busy lately between day job, Etsy, and Toyoutpost. Plus i had flu twice: on June and last week.

Now, feeling much much better and ready to blog.

I want to share my first ever participation on Indonesian President election 2014, which was held at KBRI Singapore on last Sunday, 06 July 2014.

So so excited. Been waiting for that day to come. I have been writing some posts on my facebook account expressing my thoughts for this year President election. I am not a fan of politics, especially politics in my birth country, Indonesia, due to many corruption cases and injustice, i gave up my hope for Indonesia long time ago. However, this time i think i need to participated and expressed my feelings. Plus i was also one of the undecided voters or swing voters. The two candidates were very strong. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I spent 1 week before the election day to watched as many debates as possible between the two candidates. Read positives and negatives from each candidates. I even read the black campaigns from both candidates. All very fun and entertaining. And hell yeah, this year i am going to vote!!!!!

Felt so excited after doing my part as a good Indonesian citizen. 5 minutes to vote for better Indonesia!!

TPS at KBRI Singapore.

Now, back to work ^_^

Been working on new addition to my Toyoutpost locker.

This is my newest design for mini pouch. Actually kinda funny story, my hubby asked me to sewed mini boxy pouch. But, i was lazy that day and only managed to boxed the 2 corners instead of 4. He said it was a unique design, maybe people will like it.

I put my eye shadow and lip gloss for photo.

I sewed 3 of this mini pouches. Hope people will like them.

I also sewed few flat mini pouches. It's a classic design. The size can hold standard tissue pack.

Not forgetting my best selling triangle pouches ^_^

Ta-da!!! I tried to squeezed a bit more so all my new items can fit nicely inside without looking over crowd.

Thank you for reading my blog. See you on my next post.

Custom Order For Etsy

Hi my lovely readers,
On this week's post, i would like to share my fun time on making laptop sleeve for one of my Etsy buyer. She requested a custom order for making Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13. It's a convertible PC/Tablet, super slim, super light and super nice design. It has a keyboard which you don't want to use is, just flip it over and it is convert into tablet. The display is 13.3" (bigger than my MB Pro) and runs using windows program.

Each fabrics were chose by her. I sent her photos of the fabrics. At first she wanted the pink elephant fabrics. That was going to be difficult, since i don't have enough fabrics to make 1 whole laptop sleeve. It is only enough to use for accents/decorations, such as pocket and flap. Luckily she didn't mind. I gave her few combinations: plain fabrics combine with pink elephant fabric and she agreed and picked combination of plain drill grey as the outer fabric and pink salem flower patterns as the lining. The pink elephant fabric for front pocket and flap. For closure, she agreed for using brown velcro tape.

Outer fabric: plain grey colour drill

Lovely pink salem flower pattern as lining fabric

I am going to make an envelope sleeve style for this gadget sleeve. I sent her my drawing and she agreed to it (Yay!!)

This is the result ^_^

Take a peek at the lining.

I made her a simple drawstring pouch as a thank you gift. Made using same fabric as the lining. I hope she will like it.

All neat and packed. Ready to be mail out.

Harley posed together with the sleeve. After all he is OneCraftyPup's mascot.

I had so much fun when designing and making this sleeve. I do hope she will like it. I can't wait for her review on my Etsy.

Oh, the overall process will takes up to 5 days. I tried to be efficient as much as possible.

See you on my next post.
